Headaches are one of the most common reasons that people come to see us at Optimal Wellness Chiropractic. It’s an area that we have a special clinical interest in. Headaches vary a lot in how severe they are and how often they come.

There are many different causes of a headache. Headaches are generally divided into two groups:

  1. A secondary headache where a headache is caused by some other problem. Common types of secondary headaches are a sinus headache where a headache is caused by a problem with the sinuses and cervicogenic headache where a headache is caused by a problem with the neck.
  2. A primary headache where a headache is not associated with any other underlying problem. Common types of a primary headache are a tension-type headache, migraines and cluster headaches.

Neck Pain

 

Your neck has 7 bones or vertebra that are stacked on top of each other. The vertebra has discs of cartilage in between them and is bound by ligaments. Your neck muscles move your neck as well as maintaining your posture.

Your neck supports the weight of your head, which on average weighs 4-5 kilogrammes! It is also a very mobile part of the body. This combination of factors is a big part of the reason that neck a problem are very common.  When you have neck pain it is common to also have headaches, shoulder or arm pain.

Neck pain often makes it more difficult to sleep, work, exercise and fulfil your family roles so it is something that people want to get fast improvement with.

Our approach to people who have neck pain is to first find out what is causing your pain. We will ask you questions and do a thorough examination.
